Brees Has Record-Setting Day In Win Against Lions

Brees Has Record-Setting Day In Win Against LionsDrew Brees threw for 358 yards and six touchdowns and running back Mike Bell had 143 yards on 28 carries and the New Orleans Saints have 515 total offensive yards and crushed the Detroit Lions 45-27 Sunday afternoon at the Superdome.

Brees threw to eight different receivers, with Deverey Henderson being his favorite target today, as the former LSU standout caught five passes for 103 yards.

"I thought he was outstanding today. Outstanding," Saints coach Sean Payton said.

Even though Detroit scored 27 points, the Saints defense actually played well. They held Lions rookie quarterback Matthew Stafford to 16 completions in 37 attempts for 205 yards. But what put them in the hole all day was turnovers and big returns by Detroits kickoff and punt return teams.

"There were enough sloppy things that will force us to look closely at cleaning them up," Payton said. "There are a number of things we have to do better and we'll start on that Wednesday."
